Team True Spirit was formed in 2009 at the height of the Afghanistan conflict and the original purpose was to inspire, enable and support a group of seriously injured service personnel from Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, to complete Ironman UK.
Since then it has gone from strength to strength and has helped over 1000 wounded, injured or sick serving personnel and veterans to overcome their physical and mental health challenges.
These challenges have included:
Arch 2 Arc
North Coast 500
Windermere One Way
Numerous Epic Events cycle rides and swims.
Our aim is to raise funds to enable these remarkable people to compete in challenges that they may no longer think they are capable of. Regaining their self-confidence, self-efficacy and self-pride is a key element in their journey to recovery.
Team True Spirit is an inspirational force, a force that embodies the true meaning of heroism. When you consider what a role model should look like, perhaps look towards our armed forces veterans, serving personnel and those in Team True Spirit. They have been through more in their lives than we will probably ever encounter.
We aim to help British military veterans, injured or made ill serving our country. We uncover their true determination, defiance and cast iron motivation to achieve their goal of crossing the finish line of an endurance event. They take part this for their own sense of achievement, for the team and more importantly for all other injured servicemen and their families.
Many of the team members have struggled to come to terms with the nature of their injuries. They have battled with the subsequent long-term physical and mental health problems and the challenge of adjusting to a life completely unknown to them before, as have their families trying to support them.
